20% off the 2nd Pack and Subsequent Packs of Warping Sticks (even of a different length) if purchased at the same time.
Beaming the warp is one of the most important aspects of warping the loom. Ensuring even tension across the breadth of the warp is a must for an evenly woven cloth.
Until I attended Vavstuga Weaving School in the USA I had never seen warping sticks used, and for someone who was constantly cutting paper off roll kraft paper rolls and thinking I would use the same width again, only for it to be set aside and never used again, the warping sticks were a relief, and more importantly I feel they are very easy to use. Especially on wide warps as trying to get the right width paper for anything greater than 50-60cm is difficult. And could possibly influence what you weave.
The warps that were wound onto the looms for the Classes at Vavstuga were long. At the start the warp sticks were placed every couple of turns, or on the Glimakra Counterbalance looms two sticks to each angle of the warp beam. The closeness was to prevent the knots from the cords poking through. The sticks, unlike paper, give a smooth surface- knots tend to poke through paper. Once the knots were no longer apparent, the warp the sticks were more sparsely placed, BUT they were still used to stop the warp from sticking to itself.
If you wish to try warping sticks but only wish to purchase 1 pack, Peggy Osterkamp in her Book #3 discusses what she calls packing sticks. Once past the issue of the knots she says you do not need to use them beyond this point.
Our warp sticks are from Glimakra. They have a lovely smooth surface and the edges are pencil round so as not to catch on any yarn. We have four sizes available, they are sold as a pack of 24.
Make sure you measure the length of your warp beam, the warping sticks can extend beyond the width of the warp, but they must not touch the side of the loom. This is called a disaster & I speak from experience, you will only do it once.
Depending on the length of your warp you may need more than 24 warp sticks, this is if you use them through the entire length of your warp. If you buy more than one packet of sticks you will receive a 20% discount at the checkout on the 2nd & subsequent packets.
