It is with immense pleasure that I can say that this is the first time in 19 years that the second book in Peggy Osterkamps' Fabulous Trio of Books on Weaving has been published as a fully fledged book.
I discovered Peggys's books when I visited the USA in November 2019, and all I can say is that there is a weaving life 'Before Peggy' and 'After Peggy'. It is not to say that I have not learnt things along the way from other weavers. The 'Magic String' from my time at Vavstuga Weaving School in Massechussets was revolutionary. Cutting the weft out of a woven piece on the loom with Tom Knisely in Pennsylvania was revolutionary for me at the time. And while 'The Weaving Room' exists because of the time I spent in these places, the development of skills and experience as a weaver on a floor loom has been both enriched and expanded by the wealth of knowledge contained in all of Peggy's Books.
Peggys' working knowledge and technical understanding of weaving is deep and wide. She has worked with many highly skilled weavers, and as with anyone who is a master of their craft, Peggy has taken that knowledge and technical advice and made it her own. Her books cover everything that you need to know, she gives you the tools to be come a confident, independent weaver.
I approached Peggy at the start of 2021 and asked her if I could print #2 in the series as it was out of print. I did have the PDF copy of the her Book #2 on my iPad, but what I really wanted was the ability to access all her three of books in the same way - there is something about flicking through a technical and instructional book that enables you to see things that you may miss in a soft copy. The ring binder on all her books is a standout as it allows the book to stay open at the page you want.
Book Number 2 guides you through every step of setting up your loom--from beaming the warp, threading the heddles, and weaving the heading.
Also included are extensive chapters on sectional beaming, adjusting looms (and how various looms work), tying on new warps, knots and much more.
Having this book at your loom is like having a patient, knowledgeable teacher at your side.
