Lighting

Good lighting is fundamental for weaving, and really for any fine detail work. Looms such as Jack Looms, which have a fixed castle (central piece), often lend themselves to attaching an LED lighting strip along the underside of the castle.  This lighting is very specific, it is fixed and targets one area.

The two Gilmarka Looms at The Weaving Room do not lend themselves to LED lighting strips.  The beauty of these looms are that they are wonderfully detachable, with moveable parts, allowing the weaver to sit within the loom itself to thread the heddles and the reed, but this ergonomic design does not lend itself easily to being lit up well.

A weaver requires light to thread the heddles and the reed, plus high ‘lighting’ issues in the warp on either side of the heddles and having a light source that can be moved around,  in my experience, makes weaving easy and more enjoyable.

Good lighting is also necessary for choosing or assessing the colours for or in your weaving project.

The Daylight Company Slimline 3 Floor and Table Lamps are perfect for illuminating your weaving, their ability to bend across the warp and the length of the lighting tube feel as if they were designed specifically for the weaver.
